I treasure a long-obsolete app from Foreflight, which was once available free, called Checklist Lite. I've managed to keep it on the various iPad upgrades, but if it ever went I would find myself wrestling with over-long generic paper checklists again. I've long been puzzled by the ommision of such a universally valuable and presumably simple add-on to Sky Demon, which I'm sure the majority of pilots would use and would save me personally from having to switch apps right at the point of take off. And the Sky Demon team would implement it very elegantly, I'm sure.

You could type up your own check list and then import it into skydemon on your iPad then use it in the skydemon document ' browser, that's what I do. To read your checklist when in skydemon go to Plates > Tools > document Browser. I also keep a copy of my insurance in the document browser.

I guess... All a bit primitive and long-winded, though, and a long way from the rest of the Sky Demon philosophy. The checklist I currently use, and the checklist built in to products which compete with SD like Foreflight, are 'active' ie they require the user not just to look at them but to actively check off each item, which avoids the risk of an action being missed.

I've recently had another look around for something for Android that would do this. Not too much out there, and what there is doesn't seem to be particularly actively developed.
Would be excellent if this could be built into SkyDemon.
I'd be interested in:
Pre-start (i.e. you've finished the walk around and are getting ready to start the engine) Start Power checks Pre-takeoff After landing Shutdown After flight actions.
Anything else (like taxy, pre-landing etc.) I personally probably wouldn't use, as anything that should be done while the aircraft is moving should really be done from memory IMO.
I'd anticipate something in the aircraft editor that would let you define a checklist for that aircraft. Then a checklist editor that lets you create 'groups' (like the headings above) and within that group, add individual checklist items.
Then in SkyDemon, when in 'Go Flying' mode, you could pick a checklist group from the menu, and have SkyDemon run you through it, requiring you to tick on each item as you do it.

OK, so following that thread I stand corrected; perhaps not everybody would use a checklist. But then there's lots of features not everyone would use. The 'every aircraft needs a different checklist' argument is self-evident but not germane, because the checklist would be constructed by the user. I've personally always used a customised checklist, weeding out all the unnecessary stuff from the official printed ones and adding personal ones, and it really shouldn't take too long build a customised checklist from scratch, or indeed multiple ones for different aircraft.
I'm not sure I would ever use it in the air - I use mnemonics for in-flight checks - so my checklist is for interior checks prior to takeoff. So it's quite short, no more than perhaps 20-25 items.
Interestingly, SD is the only major navigation app without it, as far as I can see.

Not really a question, more a statement of what I'd like to see in Sky Demon - an editable personal checklist that fits my exact requirements, as is provided by many other nav apps. As I mentioned earlier, I have one already, designed by the US's most popular app, Foreflight, but it's no longer available standalone, so I'd like something similar in SD. I don't need a five page official checklist, just my own, and I'd like it to be 'active' I.e. one than can be checked off so no items are missed out. I suspect many other pilots would use this too - there's quite enough paper banging about in the cockpit already.

Hi Sprucegoose. I agree it would be a good to have in SkyDemon as it becomes more of an Electric flight bag. It's bonkers that you have to switch apps when in flight. I raised this with Tim about the extending the scratchpad function too to be available post flight and revue notes/ readings taken. However, I have found this which helps - Sportys do electronic Checklist apps... Sporty's Aircraft Checklists by Sporty's Pilot Shop https://appsto.re/gb/ObzxQ.i

Hi Russell- thanks for the link, interesting. But as you say, still a separate app, and I don't really want or need a pre-existing defined checklist, just a simple genetic checklist function where I can write the items myself.
